Paintings come alive

Kinsale - Courtmacsherry
Late November 2018
Storyteller: Daria
Loves to travel and explore new countries by boat & by car. Occupation - digital marketer and volleyball player.
It was my fifth time on a sailing boat in Ireland and this trip was undoubtedly remarkable for fern jungle in Courtmacsherry, morning coffee in a garden with birds zoo, and for being inside an ocean painting.
What an adventure!

Aivazovsky in a real life. Before I start my story I just want to share the brightest memory of this trip... On the way back waves were quite big for coastal sailing - around 2- 3 m. But luckily we didn't feel it as we were moving along the same direction with the swell. The sea was like Aivazovsky's painting in real life. Incredibly exciting and beautiful. Dense, massive waves. The boat ran smoothly from wave to wave. I felt like I was put inside a picture. WOW.

The tastiest food in the world. As usual, we reached the Kinsale Marina on Friday evening. The curious captain, 3 experienced guys, a newcomer girl Olga and me. Totally packed and prepared. Even though it was almost a midnight, we were lucky to get local delicious Dinos fish and chips after a long ride. I was happy like a child - it tasted awesome. Always surprised why simple food is so tasty when you are travelling a long way?:))
Happy sailors
...and we're coming to Dinos for the second time
Who really loves a poor forecast? Next morning our captain was optimistic as always even though the weather promised to be windy and gloomy. I think he just wanted not to upset the team. However, I was definitely happy with this forecast and I'll tell you why. To be honest, I am not a big fan of long sea trips - two hours is more than enough as I always suffer from sea sickness. Nasty weather implies the fastest possible route to the next marina, and more time left to explore new places afoot. Ideal for a person like me:))) Really, hiking and finding unique places inaccessible by car is my favourite part of sailing trips.

Feeling like an elder sister. Strong head wind was blowing in our faces during the whole trip. Experienced guys were enjoying a tough sailing that made them feel like real men. Olga was the first time on the board and she was shocked by boat jumping over the waves. But honestly there is nothing you should worry about.

She was trying to smile and at the same time screamed, snapping my shoulder sharply with closed eyes. I was calm and sleepy. I was like an elder sister - assured her and felt responsible for getting rid of fear and helping to enjoy the ocean. Boat is the safest "vehicle" in the world for me - I just know that it is nearly impossible to turn upside down due to the law of physics and boat's architecture.* I can feel cold and dank because of the wind, rain or waves, but never afraid of capsizing. The only rule is to be fastened with carabines to the life line wearing life jackets.

* At the bottom of the boat, there is a heavy keel that creates a counterweight. And to turn the boat, there must be a 7 meters high twisting wave. It may only happen in a hurricane somewhere in the Southern ocean. Near the coast, even 3 meters tall waves are quite safe.

Myself happy when we finally reached the land
Courtmacsherry. Breakfast with birds. Courtmacsherry is a small seaside village in County Cork. There is only one long street along the seaside in the village. We went hiking near the village and founded semi-tropical forests. After several miles, the hiking path has disappeared, I wanted to turn back, but the team insisted to go further on green fields, wet after the rain, however with a great view of the bay from hills. Late night we finally got back.

In the morning we had a coffee in a cosy place called The Golden Pheasant. There were few beautiful birds and even wise owls inside.

Kinsale. We came back to Kinsale early in the evening and it was the first time we had some free time to explore Kinsale itself. Colourful, tiny and cute town. 1 hour is more than enough to see all the streets, which sometimes seems like a decoration to a sweet and nice movie. Also, Kinsale is famous for being a food capital with plenty of restaurants where you can try delicious seafood. Sadly, we didn't have enough time to get dinner there, however, our handmade dinner on the boat was amazing though.
